Can a Private Podcast Boost Your Synagogue’s Membership?

Yes, but not by itself. Keep reading to learn more.

A private podcast, one available just for your members, offers another way to engage your synagogue members, offering them relevant programming they can enjoy at home, or on the go, at their convenience. Leveraging the immersive power of audio, podcasts offer a way to engage personally, and intimately with individual members, and groups of members.  Here are three ways you use a private podcast to engage your synagogue members:

  1. Weekly sermons and e-D’var’s are ready made to record and distribute as a podcast–private or public. Making it private means it’s only available to your community, an added benefit of their membership.

  2. Private podcasts offer a single platform for distributing synagogue news, Board updates, and children’s programming.

  3. Introduce new members to the unique culture and tradition of your Jewish community with a private podcast with a series of episodes presenting synagogue history, special rituals, and an introduction to clergy and staff.

You’ve probably figured it out already, a private podcast isn’t a cure all that will bring in hundreds of new members. Still, a well produced podcast as a form offer tremendous value to the right members, especially members who might not otherwise engage with or even join a synagogue. Your private podcast could be 6 – 8 episodes, produced for a specific purpose. Or it could be ongoing, giving members another way to engage in the programming you’ve already invested in. Podcasts can helping spread the word about upcoming events and even letting members relive past favorites. It’s all up to you.

If you’re interested in starting a private podcast for your synagogue members, I’d love to help. As a podcast producer working in the Jewish community, I can help you navigate in the in’s and out’s of producing a highly polished podcast that you and your members can be proud of.
